The elevation tool for AC 11 sounds fantastic...but so far it si a time waster for me. I can not get it to give me a real simple elevation. It sees through some walls and not others..it leaves things out..and it adds others that do not exist on any level. Does anyone have a better way....? there must be some tricks as is sooooo typical with AC
Thanks |

it depends on your settings for that elevation. could you post a snapshot (at least) of your screen to see what is going on there?
BTW the elevation tool in AC11 is not different to the section/elevation tool in AC10.. not sure what's you problem. it works fine for me... _________________ Robert Kalocay

The Elevation tool is pretty much identical to the old section/elevation tool. They've just split them so they have their own preset markers and separate sections in the project map.
Or... Do you mean the Interior Elevation tool? It is entirely new in AC11. I find it works quite well but can be a bit tricky at first. _________________ Matthew Lohden

| a bit tricky is the WORD for me. Not being a computer CAD nerd all for me is where is it and why is it....the rationalization is almost always missing, especially with AC who does not even see fit to have indexs that cross refference in old English. For all of their wonderful visual helps they miss at the entire experience of why...and if you want to create this try this. I have figured that seeing through walls may be due to the removal of a fill at times. But as you can tell because I do not understand how it is created ...how to resolve is more difficult. Thanks for your encouragement. Paul |

Paul,
reading your post tells me that you indeed do not know what is happening in AC.

I must admit I do not know what you are talking about.

Paul, you do not have to be a CAD nerd, it is about doing your job properly and that means learning new skills. I have not seen a professional software at the level of AC that could be mastered in a couple of hours.

If you think you could do better with manual drafting or purely 2D cad do not waste your time with AC. It is just a tool after all.
Anyway, if you would like to be helped please define the problems clearly as I am suspicious as well (as Matthew suggested) that you are talking about Internal Elevation tool as oppose to the elevation tool. _________________ Robert Kalocay

You touch on the real problem. ArchiCAD talk is a different talk than webster's English. words mean different things in each jargon. It is like walking into a foreign country and trying to understand them or they us. OK.... As I said AC does not issue a dictionary or a reverse index or etc. and never a how-to directive..that tells one why this is needed to do that.
And each year we get further and further apart. The 3D design is fantastic, the 2D is OK...it is their interaction systems that causes the problems to one who was born when there were no TV's.
Thanks for the interest, |

It's the seeing through walls thing that make me think of the Interior Elevation tool. It is a feature there but not in the Section or Elevation.
BTW, Paul, I am in the city fairly often these days. Maybe we could meet for a drink in North Beach sometime. _________________ Matthew Lohden
