The angled mitre is the old way of doing it (turn legacy mode on to go back to that).
The overlapping method is the new one (controlled by building material strength). And you now have a tick box in the wall properties to use the adjoining wall material on the end of the wall if that wall skin is stronger so you don't see the end of that skin (basically what that 45° mitre in your GIF does).

I doubt you will ever get both together at the same time.

45 degrees connection could be an option in case of wall or skin of the same strength ...
